Two things of interest on this map. First, Manaus is not much more than half way between Miami and Rio de Janeiro. Second, even from space you can see the color difference between the white water Amazon, running roughly west to east and the black water Rio Negro running diagonally from north west to south east through the box illustrating the area covered by the detailed map. The second map is the area in the red rectangle above. Roughly 250 x 150 miles. Lastly, here's a closeup of Manaus, including all the stops on our adventures, the bridge, and a spectacular vantage point for the meeting of the waters. It is probably 20 or 25 miles from the Hotel Tropical to the dot marking the meeting of the waters.
